Biography
EDWARD LEECH

Edward Leech is an orchestral freelancer and chamber musician specialising on tuba, and is also a professional pianist and teacher. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he was awarded a 1st Class Honours degree, and then at the Royal Academy of Music for a Masters degree, achieving a Distinction.
He is currently principal tuba with the Chroma Ensemble and has performed in a freelance role with the Britten Sinfonia, Royal Opera House, English National Opera, London Symphony Orchestra, English National Ballet, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, London Mozart Players and the Gabrielli Consort and Players. Most recently he has become a member of the Paraorchestra, currently the flagship orchestra for Sky Arts under Charles Hazlewood.
Edward is a member of the brass quintet Quintabile, whose performance successes include: semi-finalists in the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition; runners-up in the Jan Koetsier International Brass Quintet Competition; winners of the Audience Prize and overall runners-up at the St. Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition; and winners of the Philharmonia-Martin Musical Scholarship Fund Chamber Music Award. The latter led to nomination as Concordia Artists and an opportunity to perform at the Purcell Room. As well as this Quintabile have performed by invitation at the Banff International Music Festival in Alberta, Canada, and also at recitals in France and Germany.
As a soloist Edward has performed concertos on tuba with the Newbury Symphony Orchestra, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Windsor and Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra, Penzance Symphony Orchestra, Henley Symphony Orchestra and the European Youth Music Festival Symphony Orchestra.
Edward is also an accomplished accompanist. He has accompanied concerts across the country with highlights including the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall, giving a private house concert for the cousin of HM The Queen and performing on cruise ships, as classical artists, all around the world.
As an educator Edward has been teaching both piano and brass for the past two decades. He is regularly a tutor on the Brass Academy, having also tutored on the English Brass Academy and the National Children’s Wind and Chamber Orchestras for many years. Edward has worked on youth music tours to Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. More recently he has been invited to give masterclasses at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.
