Mark Butler
Violin
Mark is a member of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Britain’s finest and most recorded chamber orchestra. His orchestral career also includes:
- Co-leader of the Ulster Orchestra
- Guest leader, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic
- Co-leader, Royal Winnipeg Ballet
- Guest leader, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Canada
- Guest principal, CBSO, Birmingham
From 1971 to 1992, Mark was a founding member of the Chilingirian String Quartet, touring world-wide and making over 30 recordings for Chandos, RCA Gold Seal, EMI, CRD and Nimbus Records. He taught chamber-music at London's Royal College of Music and at chamber-music courses in Norway, Finland and Britain. He now coaches chamber music for the Intercollegiate Awards Scheme at the University of Cambridge.
He has a violin duo with the Czech violinist Iva Fleischhansová, which has given concerts in the Czech Republic, Canada and the UK.
