 ENSEMBLE EXPERIENCE

  • Principal Trumpet, Albion Brass Consort (1991-1996)
    • In addition to a hectic concert & touring schedule, we recorded regularly for Radio 3 & Classical FM, including live concerts. We also worked for the prestigious National Federation of Music Societies, performing concerts throughout the country & giving regular master classes to talented young brass players. As well as teaching, I provided piano accompaniment as required.I have also conducted various brass bands including Northfleet brass band in the championship section.

SOLO WORK

From a young age I was used to playing and winning local music competitions. This led me to being asked to play with Avon County Symphony Orchestra where I first played the Haydn trumpet Concerto aged 11. In addition I joined Sunlife Brass Band under Derek Bourguoise who often used me as a soloist with the band for entertainment contests. That led me to going to Chetham’s. Whilst there, I played the Arutunian Concerto in 1986, the Shostakovich Piano and Trumpet concerto in 1987 and Copland’s Quiet City in the same year. In addition, I twice reached the televised stages for Brass of BBC’s Young Musician of the year in 1986 and 1988. During my professional career, I have played Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No2 at least 12 times mostly at St Martin’s in the Fields along with works such as the Vivaldi Double trumpet Concerto and other Baroque concertos. In Durban I played both the Tomasi and Hummel trumpet concertos with them. I have been a guest soloist with countless other orchestras and brass bands where I sometimes also give workshops. I have also worked on various films, such as Shakespeare in Love, Notting Hill and Anna Karinina to name but a few.
