Be Extra: Wellbeing for the Arts

About us

  • We are committed to being a centre for wellbeing in the Arts.
  • As industry specialists, we will enable you to maximise your artistic and creative potential through our wellbeing resources.
  • We vow to be inclusive and accessible to everyone.
  • Be Extra will support our communities through arts & wellbeing.

Be Extra is a new, wellbeing centred, non-profit organisation founded by creatives for whom the arts are central to their lives and mental health. Here at Be Extra, we believe that art, whatever form that may take, is key to improved wellbeing, especially in the pressured environments in which we find ourselves all too often at the moment.

We provide support for those working in, or who hope to enter, creative fields. This is through promoting self-care through creativity and providing courses to support the unique struggles of those within creative industries. At the same time, we hope to advocate for the role of the arts within communities and emphasise the positive impact low-pressure artistic exploration can have on the average person.

This month – Wellbeing Wednesdays and other events

It’s been a busy month for us: our team has grown above thirty people and we’ve launched our first live event – Wellbeing Wednesdays. As the country goes back into lockdown, we’ve opened access to a series of free events on mental health topics that are particularly prevalent in the current climate. From November 11th, every Wednesday we have online group sessions exploring panic attacks, CBT, anxiety, depression, loneliness, and stress. To allow access for all, the events are free to attend, although we will also be offering paid ticket options for those who can afford it to go towards funding future and ongoing projects. We also are accepting donations in general to help us to achieve our mission: https://be-extra.co.uk/events/

We’ve also unveiled our role as an ‘Arts Award Supporter’ this month, showing how we can help young people complete certificates and qualifications as part of the scheme led by Arts Council England and Trinity College London. https://be-extra.co.uk/arts-award/
