Katherine Jenkinson

Cello

I must put on record the performance of  the cello and piano version of Fratres, in which Katherine Jenkinson’s account of the formidable technical difficulties of the cello part was backed up by rare musical sensitivity both from her and from her partner, Alison Farr’  The Independent, 2000

As winner of the Maisie Lewis Competition and playing on the 'Markevitch' Stradivari Cello (1709), Katherine gave her Wigmore Hall debut recital with pianist Alison Farr in March 2004. She received an 'Allcard Award' from The Worshipful Company of Musicians for 2002/3 and her solo activities were also supported by the Countess of Munster Music Scheme and the Musicians Benevolent Fund. Winning an award from the Dorothy Grinstead Memorial Fund she gave a recital at the Fairfield Halls in July 2004.

Katherine has performed as a soloist throughout Europe, in Africa and Asia and in numerous London venues including St Martin-in-the-Fields and Purcell Rooms. In the last year she has made appearances playing concerti by Schumann, Elgar, Beethoven and Dvorak.
 
She devotes much of her time to the performance of Chamber Music and is a member of the Rautio Piano Trio with whom she has performed over thirty concerts this year in festivals and music clubs throughout the UK. The trio is supported by the Tillett Trust, Worshipful Company of Musicians and MBF. Last September they performed at the Wigmore Hall and are due to return there in March 2007. The trio have recently performed in the Purcell Room as winners of the Parklane Group and are to play in the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. www.rautiopianotrio.co.uk
 
Katherine is also a member of Iuventus String Quartet which performs regularly under the Munster Recital Scheme. www.iuventusquartet.com. She occasionally plays string sextet concerts with principal players of the CBSO.

A scholar of Royal Academy of Music (1998-2003), Katherine studied with Colin Carr and David Strange, obtained a first class degree, the special award of Dip RAM and ten Academy prizes. She was selected to have "RAM Associate Studentship" for 2003/4

Katherine has appeared and recorded with a wide range of artists. These include Andrea Boccelli, Pavarotti, Il Divo, Westlife, Ronan Keating, Opera Babes, Hayley Westenra, Robert Miles, Groove Armada, Daniel Bedingfield, Sugarbabes, Declan Galbraith, Sarah McLachlan, Lianne Rhymes, Van Morrison, Barry White, Lemar, Jayz, Beyonce, Chris Martin, G4 & Spiritualised. She has been seen playing on TV programmes such as Jools Holland, Jonathan Ross, Parkinson, MTV, Top of the Pops, CD:UK, Children in Need, X Factor, Album Chart Show and Strictly Come Dancing.

Katherine has worked extensively with Aled Jones, performing over 60 concerts in his last three tours, recording for two of his platinum selling albums, and featuring as soloist in his recent 40 date winter tour.  Other tours have been with Hayley Westenra and Opera Babes for whom she recorded the cello solo on their forthcoming album. She has also been the cello soloist for the latest two series of ITV Drama ‘Where the Heart is’. Katherine currently works regularly with Lemar.


Katherine currently plays on the Segelman Stradivari cello of 1692. She would like to thank the Royal Academy of Music for their continued support in the loan of this cello.
