Biography

Tim has appeared as principal viola with the following orchestras: The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, London Mozart Players, OSJ, New London Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Royal Ballet Sinfonia.

He was principal viola of the BBC Radio Orchestra for three years, a member of the London Mozart Players for eight, and a member of the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields for twelve years.

Tim has played at the Royal Opera House for many productions including Die Meistersinger, Tristan und Isolde, Cosi fan Tutte and Fidelio. He has also played for Dorset Opera and Holland Park Opera.

Having extensively deputised on West End shows including Les Miserables, Sunset Boulevard and Me and My Girl Tim was invited to join the orchestra of Sam Mendes' celebrated production of Oliver! at The London Palladium. Following this he was appointed principal viola of The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre, a position he held for sixteen years until the orchestra's dissolution at the start of the Covid pandemic.

He has been busy in London's commercial studio scene, having recorded sessions for Andrew Bentley, Andy Brown, Roz Colls, COOL Music, Cathy Giles, Chris Gradwell, Isobel Griffiths, George Hamer, Perry Montague-Mason, Justin Pearson, Nat Peck, Sidney Sax, Colin Sheen, Hilary Skewes, Debbie Wiseman, and Gavyn Wright.

He has recorded the scores for over 450 films and TV series. Films include Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Murder on the Orient Express and Paddington 2. TV series include Inspector Morse, Judge John Deed and Father Brown. Amongst the pop tracks he has recorded are Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, the album Swing When You're Winning by Robbie Williams, Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis and Fields of Gold by Ellie Goulding.

Tim was a founder member of The Locrian String Quartet which won the Mozart Prize at the Evian International String Quartet Competition. The Quartet was resident at Hertfordshire University, performing concerts at Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room and at music clubs throughout the UK.

He had the honour of performing the viola solo part of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with John Georgiadis and more recently with David Juritz in a concert at the church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields given by the Thames Chamber Orchestra.
