Brief summary of teaching qualifications/experience:
After attaining a Masters degree in Performance and Teaching from Trinity College of Music, Calina has taught violin and viola for over 25 years, alongside her professional playing career. (See highlights on her website: calinadelamare.co.uk) She has had experience of teaching in many formats: private individual lessons; paired; small groups; large groups/whole class; mentoring GCSE and A-Level students on their compositions with Ear Opener project (see a short interview with me and recording a student composition on the Ear Opener trailer here: https://youtu.be/3KcHgL5wPZk) She is child/student centred in her approach and draws on different strands in her teaching which starts with setting pupils up with excellent technique and then using ABRSM/Trinity College grade syllabuses/mixing up repertoire: classical/jazz/Blues/folk; creativity and improvisation activities; Kodaly/Colourstrings approach experience and completed Part 1 Colourstrings Course.
Calina is very interested in and involved in inclusive practice in education and is now an Inclusion Practitioner for Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service; observing and supporting instrumental tutors to develop their inclusive practice. She is also creative lead and workshop leader for Soundbox Ensemble: an inclusive mixed ability creative ensemble for disabled and non-disabled young people.
