Tjadina Wake-Walker
Oboe
Tjadina Wake-Walker has been principal oboist at the Komische Oper Berlin since 2010 and guests regularly (since 2012) at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich and Bamberger Symphoniker.
Other guest invitations to internationally renowned orchestras include Deutsche-Symphonie Orchestra Berlin, Staatskapelle unter den Linden, Staatskapelle Dresden, Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Frankfurt Opera, the Royal Opera Stockholm, Münchner Bach Collegium, Hamburger Staatsoper, Münchner Rundfunk Orchestra, Münchner Philharmoniker and Chamber Orchestra of Europe and on tour throughout Europe and Asia.
In her career as principal oboist, she has worked with world-class conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Marek Janowski, Zubin Mehta, Vladimir Jurowski, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Helmut Rilling, Jakub Hruša, Christian Thielemann, Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla, Simone Young, Christoph Eschenbach and Marie Jacquot.
She began her studies in Lübeck with Prof. Diethelm Jonas in 2002 and completed her training in Munich with François Leleux where she graduated with honours in 2009. She held an Erasmus scholarship in 2007 in Paris at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique with Prof. Jacques Tys and attended the Solistenklasse in 2009 at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Prof. Stefan Schilli.
During her studies, she was selected as solo oboist of the international Schleswig-Holstein-Festival Orchestra and won the academy position with the Münchner Philharmoniker under the musical direction of Christian Thielemann. She also won the international prizes ‘Richard Strauss Competition’ in Munich and the ‘AudiMozart! Competition' in Italy.
From 2013 to 2017, she held a teaching position at the Musikhochschule Lübeck. Since 2011, she has taught at the Orchestra Academy of the Komische Opera and external conservatoire students. This includes individual and chamber music lessons as well as audition training, chamber concerts and programme planning/workshops within the academy.
She has played at the international festivals Schleswig-Holstein, Styriarte, Straussfestival GarmischPartenkirchen, Jazz Baltika, ‘Intonations’ Berlin and the Edinburgh International Festival.
She has performed as a soloist with the Bach Collegium Munich, the Hamburg Camerata, the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the Komische Oper Orchestra and made recordings with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin and more recently with Bamberger Symphoniker.
As a passionate chamber musician, she plays in various ensembles of contemporary and baroque repertoire such as Basel Chamber Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble United Berlin, the Bach Chamber Ensemble and members of Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin.
