City of London Sinfonia - Grenfell Tower Charity Concert

Monday 24th July 2017

1st August 2017

from Claire Bayliss, Orchestra Manager, City of London Sinfonia

I am writing to let you know about a Charity Concert taking place on 1st August at Opera Holland Park (OHP) in aid of the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire. As you can imagine, this cause is particularly close to the hearts of OHP given its location, not least as one of their members of staff is missing as a result of the disaster.

The team at OHP are putting on a Memorial Performance of Verdi’s Requiem (which is sold out) as a way of giving something back to the community that they have very strong links with. Their chorus, and some very high profile soloists, including Stuart Skelton and Sarah Connolly, are giving their time for free, and CLS have offered to provide an orchestra at no cost.

Many CLS members and regular extras have offered to play for the performance for no fee, however I still have a few gaps in the orchestra so wondered if anyone would like to play? (Ordinarily, we would never consider asking players to give their services for free – but we felt that in this scenario the scale of the tragedy and the close links that OHP have with it create unique circumstances). In particular, I am looking for violins, cellos, basses, flute, bassoon, trumpets & trombones. The date is Tuesday 1st August, rehearsal 3 – 6pm & concert 8pm. If you would like to be involved, please contact me via MAS and then I will confirm whether you will be needed or not.

I think this promises to be a very special event, and thank you for your consideration.

All best wishes,
