Brief summary of teaching qualifications/experience:

Emma enjoys teaching the flute at her home in Letchworth, North Hertfordshire. Her pupils range from complete beginners to music college students; young children to adults. Please do use the Contact form on this website if you are interested or if you have any questions. Emma holds a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM) teaching qualification, with Distinction.

Emma teaches flute for the University of Cambridge and at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. Recently she was invited to give a masterclass at the Royal Academy of Music, and to teach on the Oxford Flute Summer School. She has also given taught multiple masterclasses at Trinity Laban conservatoire, where she also adjudicated the Final of the 2018 Harold Clarke Woodwind Prize. Emma has also taught chamber music at the Primary Royal Academy of Music. Her pupils have recently won places at conservatoire senior and junior departments, the National Children’s Orchestra and the National Children’s Wind Orchestra.

Emma tailors her approach to the needs of each individual pupil, spending a lot of time planning for pupils outside of lesson time. She recommends appropriate ensembles, courses and concerts for them to attend, and organises a pupil concert every term.

Emma regularly prepares students for graded flute exams (ABRSM, TCM, LCM); she has an 100% pass rate, with most students achieving high marks. She was recently asked to compile the new repertoire list for LCM’s graded flute exam syllabus.

Emma is able to accompany her students on the piano in lessons, and she also teaches music theory.

“Emma is an astonishing musician and is able to transfer her talent to her students making her an excellent teacher. She offers sensitive guidance with honest feedback that ensures each lesson is tailored to our daughter’s needs. The lesson is rounded so that knowledge and understanding of each piece is gained, helping our daughter to develop her own thoughts and interpretation of the pieces. She is an inspiring role model who encourages and challenges our daughter.”
