PAUL SEARLE-BARNES – pianist
Paul Searle-Barnes studied Music at Selwyn College, Cambridge and then the piano with Kendall Taylor at the Royal College of Music in London. Since winning the Dudley International Piano Competition in 1975 and a Maisie Lewis Young Artist’s Award, which sponsored his debut in the Purcell Room, he has performed as soloist throughout Great Britain, in France, Spain, Poland, Finland and Canada, playing on television and radio in this country, Poland and Canada. He has performed as soloist with both the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta Orchestras, the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra in the Barbican.

He has accompanied various artists, both vocal and instrumental, in the Purcell Room and Queen Elizabeth Hall, on Radio 3 and Classic FM and in recitals throughout the UK. He has also accompanied auditions for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra. He performs regularly as orchestral pianist with the BSO, has appeared as such on televised Prom (Carmina Burana), broadcasts both live and recorded (including Petruchka) and recordings (eg Bernstein’s Fancy Free for which he was given credit). He has also been performing with Kokoro, the contemporary music ensemble of the BSO and has performed chamber music with many varied groups of musicians.

He has recorded and performed film music with Debbie Wiseman and Carl Davis, with whom he recorded a number of the Thames Silent Films. On the lighter side of music, he has played for many years in the Palm Court Theatre Orchestra and has appeared on all of the orchestra’s recordings.
